Camping is a favorite thing to do in Colorado. Usually it's with your family or friends, but have you ever gone with your whole class? Every year, a camping experience at Cheley Colorado Camps is organized by my teacher Ms.Krill for all the seventh and eighth graders of Stargate School.
We were at Cheley, located in Estes Park, for three days in October. Luckily, this year it wasn't snowing and the weather was amazing. The aspen leaves all around us were a radiant shade of yellow. It was a neat seeing Cheley sunny and warm compared to last year when we went and there was a foot of snow on the ground.
The main goals of Cheley are to help kids learn about the fundamentals of teamwork and discover who they are. The team-building activities we did varied from hikes to creating some of the coolest things as a team.
On the first day, we started out by creating things such as our team name, flag, mascot, and cheer. Once we were familiar, we set out to do many other activities: obstacle courses, building the tallest objects using certain tools and supplies, and hikes were some of them. One part of Cheley, the Ropes Course, has many outdoor games to complete; for one of them, we had to fit our entire team onto a small platform by swinging on a rope individually and landing onto it.
Laughter and fun are common feelings when you're at Cheley. For example, you can learn to square dance with all your friends. Your team can also make "clothes" out of newspaper and then have a fashion show to see the most creative designs. The whole trip is something to enjoy. Of course, like you would in any other camp, you can sing campfire songs at Cheley, too.
Cheley is a place where you can have fun with your whole class and all your friends outside of school. Even if you don't go as a school, you can still visit these camps in the summer. Everyone I know that's been there has said so many wonderful things about their experiences. Cheley is where I formed thousands of memories that I will never forget.
