"The Kitten's Tale" by Darrel and Sally Odgers is a terrific book for children approximately seven to ten, although it was recommended for children ages nine through twelve.
The story begins with a dog named Trump, who is his owner's "liaison officer" (he communicates with other animals and helps calms them down about going to the vet). His owner is Dr. Jeanie, the vet in the town of Cowfork along with other nearby places. One day a kitten who has been scared by a bigger dog comes into the clinic with Trump's friend, Major Higgins. The kitten doesn't really have a name , although he is sometimes called "Puss." His owners abuse him. One day a man comes into the veterinary clinic and names the kitten Magnus. Trump is on a mission to find the dog that scared Magnus, and to find Magnus a new home.
This story teaches that whether it's between a cat and a dog or a human and an animal, friendship can be found anywhere.
