A local nonprofit called Senior Support Services needs your help! Senior Support says “our overall goal is to feed 1500 hungry and homeless seniors. Please work along with us.” They began when a few small churches came together in 1976 to help seniors in need. Today, 80% of the clients live alone and 40% are homeless. They always need financial support and volunteers to help with lunch and dinner. You can come lunch or dinner (staff do breakfast) anytime of the week, month, or year! In 2009, Senior Support served 66,600 individual meals and distributed 1,632 emergency food bags. They also let the clients use their address to receive mail and obtained housing for 135 seniors. They also distributed clothing and hygiene items. Senior Support has an annual fundraiser called ERACE homelessness the last Saturday in August. Please come to this race. My experience at Senior Support is full of fun! I help serve dinner every fifth Friday. I enjoy it because the seniors are kind to me and you get to meet a lot of interesting people with interesting stories. I also like to get cake at the end! Senior Support is located at 846 East 18th Avenue. You can contact them online at http://www.seniorsupportservices.org/
