Take a Bite out of this new New Year’s Treat!

If you’re tired of having the same New Year’s treats, then this recipe is a treat for you! The recipe for Dinakuchen is a German one. My Mom (Wendy Becker) helped me make the one in the pictures, and my Grandma (Kathleen Kordes) was the one that gave her the recipe. This sweet treat tastes great!The steps to make Dinakuchen:What you need for a batch:For the crumb topping:One cup of sugarOne cube of butterOne and a half cups of flourTwo teaspoons of cinnamonFor the inside of the Dinakuchen:One container of Pillsbury buttermilk biscuitsOne eggOne-quarter-cup of honeySuppliesA forkA panTwo bowlsTwo measuring cupsAn ovenA spoonYour handsAn adult’s helpSteps:Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.Lay out the biscuits on the bottom of the pan, as evenly as you can get them. Squish them all together so they evenly cover the bottom of the pan, touching the sides.Put the pan with the biscuits in the oven for about ten minutes.While the biscuits are in the oven, crack the egg into one of your bowls, and pour the quarter-cup of honey in with the egg. Whisk the two together with your fork.When the ten minutes are up for the biscuits, take out the pan and use your fork to flatten them down. Then, carefully pour the honey-egg mixture on top of the biscuits, being careful not to touch the hot pan.In a separate bowl from the just-used one, make the crumb topping. Mix the flour, sugar, and cinnamon together. Then cut the butter into the mixture and squish it in with your hands. Take the topping and, making sure the bits are chunkier, distribute it evenly (sort of) across the top of everything in the pan.Cook your Dinakuchen for about half an hour.Let the Dinakuchen cool.Dish up your treat and enjoy!
