Are you up to the challenge, of hanging out with your family? Then, I got the perfect thing for you, family game night. With school, work, and sports, it is hard to find time together, but choose one night or day that nobody is busy or has plans. The hardest part of this mission will be to turn off the TV, cell phones, computers, and video games. It might be hard, but it is worth it. Pick a game that you all like, not to easy or hard, but a little tricky. Start with an easy game and work your way up, if you get bored with a game change games or add a new twist to it. Make sure all the players/ family members know how to play the game, if not explain it. To increase the fun, add some healthy snacks and drinks. Family game night brings families together, teaches new strategy of thinking, increases spirit, strengthen communication skills, and builds stronger bonds. Focusing on a family game night gives something to look forward to in the week.
Here are some suggestions of games:
Educational games: practicing math facts with card games, puzzles, family cooking, and learning magic tricks.
Cultural games: music ( karoke ), arts and crafts, poems, dance party, and drama play acts.
Physical games: playing the wii, soccer, baseball, football, frisbee throwing, kite flying, family olympics, and scavenger hunting.
My family has a family game night every week and our favorite games are Sorry, UNO, Hang Man, and Scribblish. We always have so much fun. A family that plays together, stays together! Even if you have one parent or are living with your grandparents, you can still have a fun family game night that you will remember and pass on the tradition to your kids. Family game night is the bomb. Is your family up for the challenge? For more information about family game night and new games, go to www.hasbro.com(games/en_US/familygamenight/.
