What is popularity?

Tommy Wren writes, POPULARITY.

POPULARITY. Depending on the type of person and where they are in the popularity food chain, is their definition of popularity. Me, well I think that popularity or being popular is basically that everyone knows who you are. You don’t have to be liked or even respected, you just have to be well known. You can be a weirdo, but you would still be considered popular. You may think that my definition is ridiculous and very wrong so I asked around my school and I got some interesting results. I talked to different people and got different results. After talking to a student that spends his time playing YU-GI-OH (a card game), he said that he thinks that being popular means that everybody likes you. Then I talked to my friend Jessica S. She thought that being popular is when you’re known for being nice. Those two definitions were the main two, but many that I got online were more like having a high social status and lots of friends on Myspace or Facebook. My perspective of a popular person is snobby, but on rare ocassions I meet a nice person who is popular. After asking people what they thought a lot of people said that they were straight up obnoxious, yet a lot of people said that they have their own world and if they don’t want you in it they make sure you’re out of it, and some times they have to be obnoxious and rude to make sure that you are discluded. If they do want you in their little world of their own they respect you and tell you everything you need to know if you want to be included in this world. It all depends. it depends on what type of person you are, and who you hang out with. It depends on so many things I would have a hard time listing them all. What do you think. Sit down, have a glass of cold lemonade, or if its cold some hot coco and think to yourself, what is being popular? Do I want to be popular? Is it good to be popular?. Just think about it.
