Where were you when you were 8? Learning to add 3-digit numbers? Sounding out the word 'camping'? Well Briana Beebe , at 8 years old, is well on her way to becoming a famous author. Briana has just been named a grand prize winner in the 'Be a Famous Writer' Contest.
Her winning story 'Mountain Dog' is about a girl whose family moves to the mountains. If that isn't bad enough, the family dog runs away. When I read the story, it touched my heart and grabbed my attention from the beginning. I was most surprised that this story had been written by a third grader.
Briana centers most of her writing around animals, in fact, she wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up, writing stories on the side. She said that an open door let the cat out, and that might have been inspiration for this story. On the writing side, she wants to develop her descriptive skills, and learn to write fantasy. She also sings and reads, in addition to writing poetry.
Briana wasn't planning on entering this contest; she started writing her story, then decided to enter. She actually had to rewrite the last half of her story when it didn't get saved properly. She strongly believes that she lost it for a reason-that it was even better the second time.
Briana wants to advise other young authors and story tellers that, "when you write you should always use your imagination," and the most important thing you can do when you write is to believe in yourself and never give up.
