Join Rainy and her extreme energy as she sets out on an unforgettable adventure. The book," Rainy", written by Sis Deans, starts with Rainy, a girl with ADHD being shipped off to summer camp for the first time with out her family. Rainy learns a lot while at camp, but one thing that actually sticks in her mind is Maiden's Cliff, the mountain on the other side of the lake with the giant white cross on the top. They say a girl plummeted to her death from the peak of the mountain.
Rainy's endless energy causes her to lose some of her quickly made friends, move to a different cabin, and get her into infinite amounts of trouble. After Rainy discovers her beloved dog, Max, died, Rainy sets off to hike the towering mountain. To help herself remember what to bring and do, Rainy makes a list that includes shoes, water bottle (not water), food, and sweat shirt. She rows across the lake, walks to the trail, and hikes up the mountain.
I really enjoyed reading this book because it was fast paced and you never knew what Rainy was going to do next. Rainy is a character anyone can connect to, and she is realistic enough to be real. Her memories and thoughts are ones anyone could experience. The struggle she has climbing the mountain is a metaphor for how her life is a struggle of keeping up and trying to fit in.
I would recommend this book for ages 9 and up, and to people who like realistic fiction.
