The Tiger Rising is an amazing realistic fiction book that is written beautifully by Kate DiCamillo. The main character in the story is Rob. On Rob’s way to school, he finds a tiger locked up in a cage. He wonders why he is locked up. Rob has a horrible infection in his legs. The principle calls him to his office to talk to him about Rob’s infection in his legs, and says he can stay home from school until his infection is gone. The very last day of school for him until he goes home, he meets a new girl named Sistine. Rob has the keys to the tiger and Sistine constantly begs Rob to let out the tiger to be free. Sistine wants the tiger to live a life that he will enjoy, but Rob has the responsibility to feed the tiger. He feeds him breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If Rob lets the tiger out, Rob and his dad will be kicked out of the motel and they would have to live somewhere else. Will Rob let out the tiger or not? In the Tiger Rising, Rob soon has to go home from school because his infections were so terrible. All the parents and children thought that it was contagious and so he didn’t make any friends, nor did he want to. By the end of the day, Sistine and Rob are best friends. The Tiger Rising, by Kate DiCamillo has some tough words for eight years and under, and a smidgeon of violence. This 216 page novel has an extremely rich ending that many ages would enjoy. The Tiger Rising has to offer a very important lesson about wild animals and tame animals.
