Shelley Shepard Gray's book, " The Caregiver", is a story about two people, both dealing with a painful past, who chance upon each other one stormy night on a train. Fate has it that they are the only Amish people on the train, and they quickly become friends. Lucy Troyer heads to Jacob's Crossing to help her cousin Mattie through her fight with breast cancer, as an attempt to forget her painful marriage. Calvin Weaver is on his way home to Jacob's Crossing after his painful heartbreak. Although Lucy does her best to avoid Calvin, it proves to be an impossible task and they can't deny their feelings for each other. But will Lucy ever let another man in? And will Calvin heal his heart in time for Lucy to take it?
The plot for " The Caregiver" was well-paced and the romance in the book had depth. Although the main characters are Amish, the Amish culture is not explained in the book and this doesn't affect the reading. Overall, this book was pretty good.
I would recommend this book for romance readers, ages 12 and up." The Caregiver" is the first book in Shepard Gray's Families of Honor series. " The Protector" and " The Survivor" will be the next two books in the series.
