Later on, when he was wrestling, he got a lot of money. He was a kind man and gave to the poor, He would even give them $100 dollar bills! He also owned a restaurant in New York, New York. If you were from the valley, it was on the house.
Also, Jack Dempsey knew what was right. Once, when he was asked to do a testimonial for a brand of cigarettes, he refused, saying, "You could not get me to sign that for ten times what you offer. I do not smoke . . . Do think I am going to ask thousands of boys . . . to take up cigarette smoking? If you have a harmless candy or soda water, I wouldn't mind giving you a testimonial for free, but I don't sign for harmful cigarettes." He refused to influence anyone wrongly.
