Mitchell Lake Trail is located in Brainard Lake Recreation Center in the Roosevelt National Park just North of Boulder, CO. Mitchell Lake Trail has two beautiful lakes with catch and release fishing allowed. However, my family only caught rocks! It is a 6 mile round trip hike and takes about 3 hours. The views are fantastic! When you first arrive, the trailhead is heavily wooded and dotted with wild flowers. After trekking one mile, you’ll reach Mitchell Lake. The lake was long and narrow with crystal clear water. Continue on and you’ll stumble across a breath taking log bridge. You can feel the sun’s rays and see the water rushing below your feet! It’s very nerve racking as you stand on the feeble logs with the rapids roaring beneath you. As we approached Blue Lake I was surprised by the amount of icy snow pack still on the ground. Children can scurry under a snowy overhang like cave animals skedaddling into its cave. It’s very popular as we passed many people and saw many at the top. I would recommend it to anyone capable of hiking 6 miles.
