This time of year many of us kids are thinking about winter break or what to put on their Christmas list, but some are wondering when will their next meal will be or is there a next meal.

This time of year many of us kids are thinking about winter break or what to put on their Christmas list, but some are wondering when will their next meal will be or is there a next meal. In this economy today, families are struggling to put food on the table. This happens all around the United States. Carmody Middle School understands all the struggles going around and decided to put their foot down and lend a helping hand.

For the last two weeks, the NJHS (NationalJunior Honor Society) team at Carmody Middle School volunteered their time and energy collecting cans and Non- perishable items for a food drive. Since starting the food drive on November 8th, students have brought over 3,900 items. This drive was a huge success and students had a great time participating for a great cause. All the items were being donated to the Jeffco Action Center and given out to several Jefferson County families in the area.

The Jeffco Action Center has been helping families since the opening of their doors in 1968. Everyone in need of food is never turned down. Jeffco Action Center has sponsored school supply drives and many other donation raising fundraisers. Right now the Action Center is organizing hundreds of boxes of food to be distributed to families in need. Carmody Middle School donated at least 40 plus boxes of food to the action center.

There are many people who helped lend a helping hand to making this possible, so thank you to the Leadership team at Carmody Middle School for making the posters to advertise the Drive, Carmody NJHS Team for supplying their time and energy toward getting all the cans counted and organized, Jeffco Action Center for helping distibute all the cans, and thanks to all the Carmody Middle School Cougars for helping bring in almost 4,000 items.

The Carmody class that raised the most items was Ms. Page's 1st hour with 750 plus cans, they will be rewarded with a pizza party and a surprise extra reward from Ms. Page. I wonder if it includes hair dye. Purple is my favorite color.
