Are you constantly late for class? Well you better keep your eyes and ears focused or you'll get a broom to the butt (caught) in a sweep! Sweeps are the new way of getting kids to class on time, invented by Carmody's principal Mr. Allensworth. Sweeps can happen during any period of the school day, and if you get caught without a pass you are sent to the office and receive an open lab detention!
Lately, Carmody Junior High has had a tardy problem, so Mr. Allensworth, Carmody Junior High's current principal, invented a new way to assure that its students are in class on time. It's called the tardy sweep. A sweep is when teachers at Carmody Junior High lock their doors and the principal walks around, looking for kids out of class, without a pass. Only the teachers and other staff at Carmody Junior High know which period that day's sweep will be, so the only way to avoid getting a broom to the butt is to be in class!
Students have mixed opinions of sweeps. For example, when asked if sweeps should end Chris Douglas answered "No because the kids need to learn that being late is not okay. Hall sweeps should go on," While Rey French answered to the question "I think sweeps should end because I don't think they're very effective cause there only every once and a while." When we asked Logan Dounn what sweeps are to him he answered "What sweeps are to me is the schools way of babysitting us. It's like they have no trust in us and they need to let us grow up. It's not like a job has sweeps." When asked the same question Douglas answered "They are a reason to be to class on time." It seems that overall the majority of Carmody Junior High's student body dislikes the sweeps.
Carmody Junior High has had less Tardiness since it began, but it hasn't stopped. So, what do you think? Are sweeps a Good idea or a horrible decision?
