There is something different about Girl Scout cookie selling this year. You may have noticed that the Girl Scouts have the cookies with them when they ring your doorbell. Some even have an app on their phones with credit card readers. Many girls have mentioned that this system is faster and a lot more fun! It is easier to hit more houses when you have the cookies on-hand. Lilly Solomon, from Troop 1887 commented, “The new way is [good] because I can get almost all the houses on the block”. Gwynith Slape, also from Troop 1887 said, “I like how we are selling Girl Scout cookies this year because you have the cookies with you and you can just hand them to people.”

The new cookie for 2012 is Savannah Smiles. This cookie is in honor of the founder of Girl Scouts, Juliet Low. She lived in Savannah, Georgia. Who wouldn’t want a cookie shaped like a smile! These lemon cookies are covered with powdered sugar. The Savannah Smiles are the hundredth year anniversary cookie.

Girl Scouts should remember these rules while selling their cookies; always have an adult with you, make sure the customer pays the correct amount, practice making change, and don’t forget your vest!

Cookie sales began on January 22, and run through March 4th. Booth sales start February 10th. Booth sales are, “a stationary sale with a public customer target”; Girl Scouts go sit out in front of a store and sell Girl Scout cookies to people that come out of the store.

When girl scouts sell cookies, the troop leaders count up the amount of cookies each girl sold. They get prizes as a reward for what they sold and there’s usually a theme to the prizes. This year the theme is giraffes. For example, if you sold 36 boxes of cookies you would get a patch. If you sold 260 boxes of cookies you would earn a giraffe-print duffle bag.

Of all these changes something remains the same; the Girl Scout Cookies are still the best cookies. So buy them now because you won’t be able to buy them much longer.
