The Avengers movie kicks off with the theft of an unlimited power source. One by one, from around the globe, The Avengers show up to help retrieve it. Iron Man, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, Nick Fury, and Black Widow assemble as The Avengers, with the newest on-screen hero, Hulk. But getting along with each other might be the hardest part of saving the world…
This is a great movie, with lots of intense action. Several fights among The Avengers team break out, such as the big show down between Iron Man and Thor. Humor is scattered throughout the film, mostly jokes from Iron Man, to relieve tension. Iron Man is played by Robert Downey Jr., and he really fits his role, as does Chris Evans who plays Captain America. Chris Hemsworth plays Thor, the god of thunder, Jeremy Renner plays Hawkeye, the archer. Mark Ruffalo plays Hulk, and Scarlett Johansson plays Black Widow, a Russian assassin. Samuel Jackson returns as Nick Fury, the leader of the secret organization, S.H.I.E.L.D.
It isn’t necessary to see Iron Man 1 or 2, Thor, or Captain America, but they will help clear up some confusion with the characters’ background stories. Loki (Tom Hiddleston), the main villain is also a primary character in Thor, so his reasons for revenge are explained there.
I saw The Avengers in 3-D, but it isn’t essential. They did a nice job with the 3-D effects though, sending cars, rubble, and aliens at you through the screen. The technology in the film was really neat. There was every thing from touch screen computers to planes that camouflaged into the sky and state of the art weapons.
If you don’t enjoy action packed adventure movies, this isn’t for you. I would definitely say this movie is for at least ages 10 and up (it’s rated PG-13) because there is mild cussing. This movie is 2 hours and 23 minutes long.
