Men in Black III, the third installment in an action-packed series about a secret force of fighters who protect the Earth from aliens, is an excellent movie, filled with action, adventure and comedy, as well as great special effects.  Some parts are predictable and unrealistic but overall it lives up to expectations and may be even better than the first and second Men in Black movies.

In this movie, Boris the Animal (played by Jemaine Clement), who was imprisoned 40 years ago by Agent K (played by Tommy Lee Jones), escapes from Lunar-max, a highly secure prison on the moon. He is trying to get revenge on K for shooting off his arm many years before. Boris makes it to Earth the same time Agent J (played by Will Smith) and K are investigating an alien food poisoning at the local Chinese restaurant. While K is looking at the food, aliens jump out and attack J. After much fighting, J defeats them, but on the way out, J and K run into Boris.  J and K are forced to retreat by Boris' vicious assault. They go home, but the next morning, when J goes to K’s apartment, K is missing, replaced by a young family. J goes to Men in Black (MIB) headquarters to find out that K has been dead for over 40 years.

J and O (the new leader of MIB, played by Emma Thompson) slowly work the pieces of the puzzle out, and realize that Boris has gone back in time to aid his former self and kill K. Not only that, but if Boris succeeds in stopping K, he will also wipe out a shield that has been protecting the Earth from invaders all these years.  J is forced to jump off the Chrysler Building in order to time travel into the past to try to rescue K.  However, his plan doesn’t go as he expected, and he and K have to fight both the past and the present versions of Boris.

This movie is very exciting, with consistent action. Unlike most 3-D movies where the 3-D effects wear down after the first few minutes, in this film, the 3-D is very good throughout, especially in the fight scenes where Boris is throwing his darts. It looks like the darts are heading right at you. It's also really funny to see the younger version of K (played by Josh Brolin) all happy and smiling and making jokes with J, while the older version of K is all surly and decrepit. All the actors do a good job.

I didn't like how the movie starts out, with Boris breaking out of prison, because it seems very unrealistic. But after the first five minutes, the movie picks up. I thought the ending was a big surprise. It was unexpected but satisfying.

There were some references to the first and second Men in Black movies, but it isn't essential to have seen them. This movie seems like it will appeal more to boys, because of all the fighting, but girls will like it too because it's very funny. I think it's appropriate for kids ages 9 and up.

All in all, Men in Black III is a very good film, and perhaps the best of the three. I am looking forward to the fourth one!
