In the novel “How to rock braces and glasses” by Meg Haston, super cool Kacey Simon is a journalist and stars in the play Guys and Dolls. She has three of the most popular friends in middle school: Molly, Liv, and Nessa. When her contacts go defective, she needs glasses. Turns out, that’s the same day as Molly’s birthday party. When she gets there, she accidentally (on purpose) ditches her glasses. This turns out to be just the beginning of a life-changing chain of events.
Molly’s party is at a roller rink, so Kacey has to skate with her whole vision blurry. She falls while accidentally skating backwards, and she chips her molar. Her dentist looks at her teeth and finds out she actually needs braces and headgear. He puts them on her teeth, but when she wakes up the next morning, she finds out another problem of hers: her lisp! And then, as a surprise, she actually gets fired from the play.
Kacey used to have a friend called Paige before she became friends with the other girls. Since the others are her enemies, but only temporarily (as Kacey insists), she reunites her friendship with Paige. They come up with a plan for her to return to her popularity, including finding out that Molly loves bands.
Using this important information, she joins a band called Gravity, and she figures out that the band was the best thing that ever happened to her. Unfortunately, this will not last.
Will Kacey ever climb back to the top? Or will she discover that hitting rock bottom kind of…rocks? Read this book to find out!
This book is very exciting because it is very unpredictable. I would recommend it for girls ages 10 and up. I like this book because it seems very realistic and it seems like Kacey’s experience could happen in real life. I read it three times! This is a novel that people would be fighting over everywhere that you can get books. Read it to see a whole new point of view: KACEY’S!
