If you're wanting the out of the ordinary opera than you’ve got it! This is just the beginning to the amazing works of Central City Opera.

Putting on an opera takes a lot of work and people! The performers are hired a year in advance so they can have their script memorized. The costumes are researched to be historically accurate and made or rented, then many alterations are made so it can fit the performer. The wigs and beards are handmade with real human hair sewn strand by strand into invisible fabric, they can take 40-60 per wig! The stage props are either built or bought then strategically placed in the right spot. After that, the lighting is programmed scene by scene to make it easy for everyone in the audience to see it perfectly. This is just some of the many things to be done before opening night. In the end, everyone's hard work pays off and it’s all worth it when they put on a great performance!

This opera house is celebrating its 80th birthday this summer! The Central City Opera is a jewel box theater because they are small and beautifully decorated just like a jewelry box! With only 550 seat in this theater you are sure to feel like a part of the performance. For the 2012 season of opera house, you can go and see performances like: Oklahoma, La Boheme, and The Turn of The Screw. with such a variety of completely different operas there has to be one for everyone! And for those people that can’t speak gibberish, they have subtitles for the foreign performances.
