Let’s talk history. Too broad? Then let’s try Colorado history. Well, to narrow it even further we should talk about the new Colorado History Museum and their new exhibit.
Let’s talk history. Too broad? Then let’s try Colorado history. Well, to narrow it even further we should talk about the new Colorado History Museum and their new exhibit. When you first step into the museum you can see groups of people pushing around these strange machines that look like prop extras from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory on a map of Colorado. These are called time machines and they show videos activated by certain things in the map. Step past that and go through a red, old fashioned, railroad station. "Welcome to Kiowa," you will probably hear more than once while walking around. If you were to go there now it would be all abandoned and wrecked, a ghost town you might say, but before it was a pretty good living town on the plains. As you walk through you get to see and feel what it was like to live back in the late 1800's and battle the elements through various artifacts, props, actors, and cool technology. If you walk into the general store you see that back then they had coca-cola, Kellogg cereals, jell-o, and even Campbell's soups. They also had mail order catalogs were you could get clothes, accessories, cars, houses all shipped to you. You will also see the school where the little kids spent most their days. Then there are the houses that they lived in. Within the house they have you see the normal stuff people had and have in their houses and some keepsake items like wreaths made of the hair of the family and friends they left behind. Now follow the cow noises over to the barn. This is the first building built on the farm so they can get money and house their animals faster. As you leave the exhibit you pass through one last room with about twelve artifacts. These are some of the things the residents of Kiowa used and had on a daily basis. I highly recommend going to this museum whether or not you have been there already because of the smells that you can only get there and you can maybe take an old ford car for a test drive.
