We went to the Colorado History Center to examine the newest museum in downtown Denver. We explored the Destination Colorado exhibit that transports you back to the 1920’s. JJ Rutherford, the director of education and lead developer of Destination Colorado said, “We wanted to put you in the middle of the story.” And let the journey begin.
This exhibit is extremely interactive and family friendly. There are five- hundred total artifacts in this exhibit along with interactive videos, great demonstrations the entire family can enjoy, and great employees. This is a wonderful exhibit to bring the kids to. With all of the opportunities to climb on, touch, and smell the built artifacts, even the young ones won’t get bored.
I spoke with the lead developer, JJ Rutherford about what she and the rest of the team were thinking while building this exhibit. The initial thought was, “We didn’t want to focus on the famous founders of Colorado. We wanted to focus on the less famous.” And it completely came through in the rustic style of the museum.
Overall, I loved this exhibit with all of the artifacts, both build and actual. This is the perfect exhibition to take the kids to. There are several opportunities to get involved in the history that is perfectly represented in this newest museum, the Colorado History Center.
