Ever since the Tenth Mountain Division was formed young adults wanted to volunteer to be apart of it.
Ever since the Tenth Mountain Division was formed young adults wanted to volunteer to be apart of it. After inducted in to the army men could have chosen to be part of the Division and the ones who did were shipped to camp hale near Leadville. They trained at the camp until they were sent to Italy to battle the Germans.
At the time the Tenth Mountain Division probably had the hardest training out of the entire army. For Example D-series, D-series was were the campers had to stay out over night on top of a mountain in -45 degree weather with no fire and they and to complete drills. Not only was the training tough the life in the camp was hard to. The barracks were powered with steam heaters so many times it was so smoky that the campers got bad coughs and even got sick sometimes. It got so smoky that the campers called it camp Smoky Valley.
After Camp Hale the campers were sent to Italy to fight the Germans. They always wanted to suprise the Germans so they would sometimes go into battle without a loaded weapon incase they fell and accidently shot a bullet. The tenth mountain Division fought many battles that ended up in victory for America. The Tenth Mountain Division helped America beat Germany with their experience in the mountains.
