The Unforgotten Coat
By Frank Cottrell Boyce
The Unforgotten Coat by Frank Cottrell Boyce is a fast read however a little confusing from time to time and parts of it are scary. The book is about two brothers named Chingis and Nergui who journey from Mongolia to Liverpool. They meet a kind classmate named Julie. (The main character) The boys tell Julie that she will have to look after them. She will have to be their good guide, as they call it. Julie wants to learn more about them so she doesn’t mind that they chose her to be their good guide and that she had no chance to say no.

Nergui is supposed to be in a lower grade than his brother because he is the younger sibling, but Chingis insists that Nergui is in the 5th grade with him. However nobody knows why.

Chingis, Nergui , and Julie all become friends. Chingis and Nergui spend the night at Julie’s house and Chingis tells Julie that Nergui believes they are being chased be a demon. A certain demon that makes things vanish. He tells her that that is why he has to be in the fifth grade with them.

The Un-Forgotten Coat is a bit funny from time to time. The story tells you lots about the Mongolian history and culture. It takes place in modern day, in the town of Liverpool, England and the desert of Mongolia.

My personal favorite character is the teacher, Mrs. Spendlove. She teaches her students about rocket science and other life lessons. She is serious but in a kind way. The problem with this book is that it is kind of hard to understand what Frank Cottrell Boyce is saying especially when he’s talking about the Mongolian culture and history.

If you’re looking for a good book you may want to read The Un-forgotten Coat by Frank Cottrell Boyce. It is a fast read and I think you really should read the book to see for yourself! I give the book four stars out of five. I recommend it to kids ten and up.
