How would you react if your father died and then creepy, possibly dangerous men started pursuing you? Em Goverton in The Secret Prophecy by Herbie Brennen is in that extremely frightening situation. After his father passed, Em and his mother were left with little money, so Em was sent on a trip to France with a family friend and his daughter, Charlotte. Bizzare men that Em saw at his father’s funeral followed him there with guns. He and Charlotte are confused, scared, and reluctant to involve Charlotte’s father, even though the situation could turn deadly. When Em runs away, with Charlotte following close behind, they find a man named Victor. He is involved with a secret government society, and he tells the kids what they're up to. Victor is willing to help them, but is he dangerous and untrustworthy? Will the trio be able to solve the mystery of what happened to Em’s father? Will they be able to prevent a worldwide tragedy that could wipe out entire populations?
This novel was outstanding, with a fantastic plot and action-packed adventures. It does make the reader both depressed and terrified, but in small doses. I recommend The Secret Prophecy by Herbie Brennen for ages ten and over due to a little bit of violence and intimidating scenes. This book is an adventure/science fiction novel, but even people who don’t like these genres will find that this volume will grasp their attention.
