“There are moments in your life that change everything. I don’t mean little things like, say, what cereal turns out to be your favorite or whether you get into any AP classes or what girl you fall in love with or where you wind up living for the next twenty years. I mean total change. One second your world is one thing, the next-snap!-it is completely altered. All the rules, all the things you accepted about reality, are turned around.
Like, up becomes down. Left becomes right. ”
-by Harlan Coben from the novel, Seconds Away
Seconds Away, by Harlan Coben is a thrilling roller coaster through the life of Mickey Bolitar as he tries to solve a murder case involving his friend, Rachel. Trouble catches him at every corner, his friends risk their lives, and shocking secrets will be kept.
Still coping with the death of his father, his mother being locked up, and living with his busy uncle Mickey is faced with two mysteries, one involving his father and the other involving a murder. Also dealing with the usual high school drama, Mickey takes another journey being seconds away from the truth at the end of every page.
When I read this book, I read it from the startling beginning to the twisted end in one night, because it was that hard to put down. The pace was perfect, every time the momentum dropped it would spike up again within seconds.
Mickey Bolitar begins in his first book, Shelter, but even without reading this bestseller you could understand the plot perfectly. If you are into mystery and suspense then you are in for a treat with this mysterious book.
A fun fact about the author, Harlan Coben, and his wonderful books is that his novels are published in forty-one different languages and he has had over fifty million printed copies worldwide!!! This shows how these books embedded themselves so easily onto the bestselling list.
I would recommend this to twelve year olds and up because of some intense moments. Giving this heart stopping novel a five out of five star rating I hope some of you will pick up this book and get wrapped up into this mystery from the beginning to the end.
