Kiss Kiss Bark by Kim Williams-Justesen is about how poor Mattie James summer has not been going as planned. Mattie has to babysit her annoying brother Donny (Donald) who insists on being treated like a dog.

Even worse, Mattie has to deal with all the super embarrassing things Donny does with no sympathy from her parents. Along with that Mattie dreams of getting the attention of Nate, her best friend Livvy (Olivia) ‘s brother who in Mattie’s words, “does not even know she breathes air”. When she finally does get Nate’s attention Livvy reacted in a way Mattie that Mattie did not expect. Livvy stops returning Mattes phone calls. Now, Mattie has to choose between Nate and Livvy.
I enjoyed this book a lot and is definitely a girl’s book. I love how Mattie narrates the story so when she is embarrassed you are embarrassed and how when she is laughing you laugh. Mattie was my favorite character and you could definitely relate to some of her experiences.

While I was reading the book I thought this book would end with a boring happy ending and even though the ending was happy there was definitely a surprise at the end that shocked me. There were likable characters and hilarious dialogue. I would recommend this book for girls 10 and older because there will be some parts younger readers will not understand. I think that all types of girls will enjoy this book as I did. This book was definitely a pleasure of mine to read.
