Fangbone! Third-Grade Barbarian by Michael Rex is about a Viking boy living in the “human world,” and his friend, Billy. Billy and Fangbone need to get a project completed for the invention convention, a school project that was due soon. But when Billy finds out a huge monster called “The Crusha” is going to attack him, something else becomes the boy’s main worry- keeping Billy alive. So Billy and Fangbone come up with a genius plan to defeat “The Crusha.”
Then came the invention convention. “The Crusha” was waiting for Billy and Fangbone behind the school. The Boy’s plan works-until “The Crusha” comes back. This time, they have no plan. But, when all of the boy’s class helps defeat it, “The Crusha” is never going to come back. But what were Billy and Fangbone going to do? “The Crusha” had destroyed their project! Luckily, with unintentional help from some bullies, the two kids get a perfect grade. In the end, Billy becomes a legend and gets awarded a sword of his own.
Fangbone! Third-Grade Barbarian by Michael Rex is a book I would recommend for third or second graders. It is a fun read for both genders. It has great splashes of humor throughout the book, which keeps it interesting. This book has fun and colorful illustrations and a simple plot. I would give this book four out of five stars.
