The stock show is a major part in Colorado history. It is a chance for ranchers to sell their cattle at fair prices. Now that it is 2013, they are having the 107th National Western Stock Show. There, they have cows, sheep, pigs and alpacas to sell. I spoke with two of the cattle brands there.

The first one was The Lodoen Cattle Company from Westhope, ND, near the Canadian border. They sell red Angus cows and their main product is beef. I spoke with the manager, Jennie Lodoen, and she told me some interesting facts. The first thing was that they have exactly 200 cows in total. She says the most important thing about taking care of cows is feeding them properly since it makes more beef for the company.

My second stop was Boss Cattle. They raise their cows in Nebraska and also sell them for beef. I interviewed the manager there, Megan, and this is what she told me. She told me that they have 350 cows in total and the most important thing is to feed them properly. To get them ready for the stock show they begin breaking or training the cows while putting them on a special diet.

I had a fun time at the National Western Stock Show. If you go, be sure to check out the different kinds of cows. The owners are always happy to talk.
