Upon entering the Western Stock Show, the first thing you see are enormous animals with people paying to get photographed with the animals. Gary Reiber, the owner of Kodiak Ranch in Brighton, has his Texas Longhorns, Brahma Bulls and Clydesdale horses on display. He raises these types of animals because he likes to stand out. He says, “I guess I just like being different.”
It is not just the size of these animals that make them impressive, they also have very unique qualities. Texas Longhorns can have horns that reach 5 feet from tip to tip. Brahma Bulls have a large hump on top of their shoulders, and have long floppy ears. Clydesdales were used primarily as work horses, but with the invention of tractors and cars, they began breeding them as show horses because of their majestic qualities. Reiber spends a lot of his time training his animals to have such a gentle nature.
Reiber says that he got into this buisness because he likes the animals. He takes them to events like the Western Stock Show and the Greeley Stampede. The Clydesdales are also available for weddings. You can learn more about Kodiak Ranch and the animals at http://www.kodiakranchcolorado.com/ .
