"Nancy Drew Diaries" is a brand new series published this year featuring a modern day detective by Carolyn Keene. The first book in this series is called "Curse of the Arctic Star." Nancy has solved many cases with her best friends, cousins George and Bess. In this first adventure, the trio is hoping to get a relaxing vacation, but is that possible?
Nancy is asked to help solve a mystery on the maiden voyage of a new cruise line. The ship is called the Arctic Star, which is visiting Alaska. Someone is trying to sabotage the ship, but who and why? There are tons of people on the cruise, so anyone could be a suspect! Many odd things occur when the saboteur attacks, but when will he go too far? Will Nancy be able to find the saboteur, and have a relaxing cruise?
I enjoyed the book because it is written in first person. I am a big fan of that point of view in books, and it means better dialogue. I also enjoyed the adjectives like, "efficient- looking", "cocked" and "dubious." If you have read any of the original 56 books by Carolyn Keene, you would like this new series too. The characters also communicated with modern technology, which I felt helped move the story along a bit more. I am excited to read the rest of the series with this new diary-like twist!
