Georgia O’Keeffe is recognized as one of America’s most important and successful artist. Georgia O’Keeffe began painting skyscrapers and large flowers as if they had been zoomed in on with a camera.
Georgia O’Keeffe in New Mexico is a traveling exhibit of Georgia O’Keeffe’s work from her time spent in New Mexico.
The Exhibit has New Mexico’s Landscapes, Architecture, and Katsinam Dolls (from Hopi culture). This Exhibit does not include New York’s Tall Skyscrapers, or any large flowers painting.
This exhibit also includes 15 rarely seen Hopi Katsina Tihu pictures. The entire Exhibit has 3 Galleries in all. Each Gallery has its own theme. They are New Mexican Landscape, and Architecture paintings by Georgia O’Keeffe, and Katsinam dolls and artifacts as well as paintings by other artists about the Hopi Culture.
Some key paintings to look out for are Ram’s Head, Blue-Headed Indian Doll, Ranchos Church No.1, and Rust Red Hills. One interesting painting to look out for is David Bradley’s depiction of Georgia O’Keeffe. In this painting Georgia O’Keeffe is in her studio and she is painting a picture while in her studio. There are 2 paintings in this picture that are in the same exhibit. You should try and see if you can find them.
This exhibit is very unique, it has some artifacts that belong to the Denver Art Museum and will not be seen as a part of the traveling exhibit so make sure you don’t miss this one in a life time opportunity! This exhibit ends on April 28th, 2013.
