The polar plunge is a thrilling way to have fun and help raise money for Special Olympics Colorado! It’s the largest fundraiser of the year where many groups, including the Avalanche players, police/sheriff departments, hospitals, businesses, schools, families, friends and other community teams participated! The Avalanche team did the Harlem shake and many spirited participants were dressed in hilarious costumes! Spirited plungers wore tutus, huge wigs, crazy hats, suits, boas, dresses, carried plungers, you name it! Many people submerged into 37 degree water in the Aurora Reservoir for a great cause to raise money which supports year round training and competition in 22 sports for more than 1,200 athletes. The enthusiasm from participants and roars of laughter from the crowd really made it an exciting and fun event. People ages 7 and up raised over 176,000 total dollars in all three Polar Plunges held this season to benefit children and adults with disabilities. This goes to show that when a community gets together they could make a huge difference.
