New Lands by Geoff Rodkey is the exciting new sequel to Deadweather and Sunrise. Egg, Millicent, and Guts have just escaped from the evil merchant Roger Pembroke, and are escaping to the New Lands. Of course, Pembroke is after them because Egg has the only map leading to the greatest treasure on earth, the Fist of Ka. The crew of the ship they are traveling on tells stories of fierce natives and evil Cartagers, but when they arrive at the port they are greeted friendlily by the people. They quickly make money off of Guts’ great guitar playing, even though he has a hook for a hand. Then, they are invited to the castle so the king can hear Guts’ band play. There, they discover that the king’s beautiful translator is an Okalu native, and can take them to elders that can translate their map. But in their apartment later that night, they are kidnapped by goons. Who and why have they done this!
I would give this book a nine out of ten, because some parts are worded confusingly, and are hard to understand. I would recommend reading the first book first, or else you won’t know what is happening. I would rate this book 10 and up because it is a little inappropriate at times, and is a little gory. It is a good sized read at 325 pages, but I wasn’t able to put it down. Overall, I thought this was a great book and I would definitely recommend reading it.
