A combination of action, mystery, and magic, this book transported me to another world where the experiences of main characters Janie, Ben, and Pip were mine as well. The story takes place in 1954 when the Vietnam War is just beginning. Janie Scott has moved from London back to her home in America and hasn’t seen her friends Pip and Benjamin in two years. Ben along with his father, “The Apothecary” are nursing injured people in Vietnam’s jungles. He has created a magical formula that allows communication between him and Janie in different parts of the world. Using this formula, Ben discovers that Janie has been involved in a dangerous situation. He sets out to help her, contacting Pip for backup. The three are thrown into a “game of tag” across the globe desperate to find each other while unraveling a mystery much larger than they could have ever imagined. I would recommend this book for readers 10 years and up due to some adult language and an intricate plot. It wasn’t as good as the first book in it’s series but was still a page-turner. I give it 4 out of 5 stars! Overall, this book was very entertaining. I’d encourage you to read it!
