The W Rail has arrived!


 Friday is the day for the opening of the new light rail, the W line!

 Friday is the day for the opening of the new light rail, the W line! That morning, there will be ribbon cuttings at the Decatur Federal Station, the Lakewood-Wadsworth Station, and finally at Jeffco. All rides on the W line are free Friday after the opening ceremony, starting around two p.m. and all day Saturday.

On Saturday, each station will also have a community-sponsored party from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

 The new rail line stretches 12.1 miles with 11 new stations. Only six have parking, but many of the others have bike racks or bus pull offs. There are six new Park-and-Rides, as well as three new Call-n-Rides which take you where you want to go. Each station will have art ranging from sculptures to mosaics.

The parties will vary between stations, but all will be family and child-friendly, with free food, live entertainment, and fun for all! Each will also have local vendors, as well as an RTD information booths.


Sports — Sports fan will enjoy Saturday’s parties. Denver mascots, teams, and cheerleaders will attend some parties, while others will include activities like a climbing wall, mini golfing, and other fun.

 Arts and Crafts — The parties will be a great place to meet artists, and even do some art projects yourself! The Garrison station will just be completing a beautiful mosaic stretching the length of the wall. Station parties have art opportunities ranging from pottery to chalk drawings as well as arts and crafts for children. One of the artists designing the new light rail art will be at a party, as well as a chalk artist doing demonstrations.


Entertainment — Each station will have live entertainment, ranging from DJs to school and church a capella choirs. Sheridan station will have a Michael Jackson impersonator, and the Decatur Federal Station will have a live performance by Radio Disney.


The station parties will be informational, entertaining, and you’ll even get a free ride on the light rail, so be sure to swing by and join the fun!
