The amazing book, “Genie Wishes” by Elisabeth Dahl is definitely is a realistic and relatable book for girls.

This novel follows a 5th grader named Genie Kunkle who is elected class blogger for the school year. This year’s theme for the blog is “wishes, hopes, and dreams.” She is expected to record her class’s wishes, hopes, and dreams for the year. The only problem is, Genie has never been the center of attention, at least in school, and she has to try to find her voice.

Genie wonders every day, “what should I write about?” But it seems that all she can think about is her best friend Sarah, who has been hanging out with the boy-crazy new girl, her dad’s new adventures in dating, and her older brother’s rude new attitude. As Genie writes her own new blog entries, she learns that she has wishes, hopes, and dreams of her own.

I thought that this novel was a fairly easy read for girls who are about 11 or 12 and older. Genie is definitely a good role model, because she solves problems in a good and fair way. And I think that Elisabeth Dahl used some real problems that I know some girls are having at Genie’s age.

This book was great for girls that are probably about ten or eleven and up, because of some of the terms and subjects that the characters use.
