At a youth lacrosse camp in Littleton, Colorado, professional lacrosse player Casey Powell spoke to a group of kids about achieving their dreams. Casey Powell has been a professional lacrosse player for fifteen years and was just acquired by the National Lacrosse League’s Colorado Mammoth. Powell hopes to not only leave his mark on the field, but in the community as well. Powell said that he wants to be remembered as “an ambassador of the game.”
Speaking to young lacrosse players, Powell stressed the importance of dreaming big and creating opportunities. For Powell, his dream began at the age of eleven when he and his brothers started the first lacrosse program in their hometown of West Carthage, New York, just so that they could play. Powell eventually went on to win a National Championship at Syracuse University. As for his younger brothers, they were also able to follow in his footsteps. Powell said, “I set the scoring record, my brother, Ryan, tied it, and my brother, Mike, beat it!” Eventually, Powell was able to achieve his dream of becoming a professional lacrosse player.
Powell also gave some advice to the young people at the camp. He said, “Always enjoy the game and keep the fun in fundamentals. ” He also offered some very inspirational words that can apply to anyone. Powell said, “Dream big and never doubt yourself. ” He stated that you have to work hard, “but don’t think of it as work, think of it as playing and having fun. ”
