Six kids from Scary School are asked to be exchange students to visit the scariest school in the world for one week. In order to survive, they have to battle fierce mythical creatures and fulfill a scary prophecy. ‘Scary School the Northern Frights’ by Derek the ghost is a frighteningly funny book filled with battles and excitement.

Principal Meltington from Scream Academy( the scariest school in the world), announces that six kids from Scary School are allowed to spend a week at Scream Academy as exchange students. Nobody wants to go, because Scream Academy is a school for monsters. All students are put to multiple tests such as the school entrances blocked with ice and the lawn covered with ice to see who would have the best chance at survival. At Scream Academy, they have to “Be judicious or be delicious.” Just getting to class is an adventure, and the teachers are always ready to eat the students. They have an abominable snowman for a headmaster, headless horseman and a three headed witch for teachers and ogres for classmates. “They don’t call it the scariest school in the world for no reason.” The unlucky six chosen kids will give it their best effort but will they survive the horrors of Scream Academy or will they die trying?

I enjoyed the way that Derek makes weird monsters appear in silly situations. This book got me hooked because it constantly had obstacles popping up to make it harder for the kids to survive. There are good quotes in this book like “Misfortune comes from selfishness” and “Fear is the net that ensnares the mind”. I think this book should be appropriate for boys and girls ages 7+ because there a lot of battles against monsters and other weird creatures. It made me want to keep on reading the book. This book is nonstop action and excitement.
