This novel, Eat, Brains, Love by Jeff Hart is a fascinating story about two zombies on the run, who, along the way, find love. The publishers of this book say it’s for ages 13 and up and grades 8 and up. I’m going to agree and maybe raise the age to 14 and up.
The reason for that being that this book has a swear word on nearly every page and a few mentions of sex and some underage drinking. Other than that, this book has a great story that most everyone will like. But beware, this book can get gory, detailed, and intense. This novel is more comedy than anything, but can get scary in the details.
This book focuses on two teenagers, Jake and Amanda, who transform into zombies at the beginning of their senior year and eat half of their friends. They go on the run with a group of zombie-hunters, called the NCD, chasing them. NCD is a government group sent to capture and kill zombies. The story is told in separate voices by Jake and Cass, teen zombie-hunter/psychic who is a part of the NCD.
When Jake and Amanda are on the run, they meet more of their kind and make some friends. They also struggle with the fact that they are now zombies. They have to be able to have food or else they will go full out zombie. That’s their main struggle. This novel is an attention-keeping story, with a few twists along the way, about two teenagers falling in love and overcoming new obstacles being thrown at them. I think that this book has something for everyone, whether you like romance, action, or sy-fy, you will fall in love from page one. I definitely recommend reading this book… if you have the guts.
