Transparent by Natalie Whipple is a book about a girl named Fiona who lives with her mom and dad. There is an illegal drug, called Radiasure, which was once used to make people unaffected from a nuclear disaster, but has now given people powers. Fiona’s mom is telekinetic, which means that she can move things with her mind. Fiona’s dad is a Charmer, which means that he can make himself irresistible to women and can make them do whatever he wants them to do. Fiona is invisible. Fiona’s dad has been using Fiona since she was very young to do many crimes, including stealing priceless weapons and spying on people. When Fiona’s dad tells her to kill his enemy’s daughter, Fiona and her mom run away. They escape to a small town, and Fiona meets friends and finally feels normal. However, Fiona’s dad isn’t going to let them get away that easily and tries to find them. When Fiona’s friends risk their lives for her, she realizes that it might be all too much.
Transparent is definitely one of the best books that I have ever read, and I would recommend it to people 12+ because it wasn’t inappropriate, but it did have mild language. I would rate it 5 out of 5 stars because it really was a very intriguing book. This book sells for about $10.00.
