Ann battles the stress of her aunt’s impending wedding in which she is to be a bridesmaid, the disapproval of her perfect mother, and tempting diet plan infomercials in this inspiring (though fictional) novel. As she struggles with her new job and old friendship, Ann is determined to stay afloat.

This book was obviously intended for a teenage audience. Due to swear words and underage drinking, this book definitely is not for readers under 12 or 13. Additionally, mentions of anorexia nervosa may also be slightly disturbing to some people.

However, if you are willing to look beyond the mature content, this is a fantastically inspirational book. Barson’s empathetic writing style really had me feeling victorious at Ann’s successes and pain at her failures. I also thought Barson’s character development was superior.

Ann was very relatable to me, as was her friend Raynee. It was really nice to see Ann prevail- it almost felt like she was my best friend! The interesting plot kept me constantly on my toes.

This is a great young adult read, and I highly recommend it.
