This movie is about Nelson Mandela and his long walk to freedom. He was born a simple man and along the way became a great leader. Mandela is played by actor Idris Elba. The movie takes you places in Mandela’s life during the lowest and highest points.
Mandela decided that he was sick of watching his people being treated unfairly. Some of his buddies chose to do something about it. So, they convinced Mandela to join a rebellion to uprise against the white government. During this uprising, Mandela and his family experienced great turmoil.
In the beginning, this event was just viewed as freedom of speech and protesting. Soon after, it was viewed as this group was trying to “over throw the government.”
These statements lead to a jury trial. Mandela and the other men were being tried for the act of overthrowing the government. These men were sentenced to death in prison. Even though, Mandela was locked up, the uprising did not stop. Mandela’s wife, Winnie became the “leader” of the uprising, while Mandela was in prison. Winnie is played by actress Naomie Harris.
Shortly after, Winnie was arrested and sent away numerous times, leaving their daughters to raise themselves. This uprising soon became violent, and uncontrollable. That is, until Mandela was released under certain circumstances. From that point on, things started to happen, where there would hopefully soon be a resolution.
I personally really enjoyed this movie. In a way, this movie hit home for me, and I think it will for other viewers as well.
This in a must see movie. but not necessarily a movie you should take the whole family to. This movie is PG-13.
It is unfortunate that times like this bring the greatness out in a man.
