When Nick’s Aunt suddenly dies right before Halloween, he and his family must travel to her house to clean it out. However, Nick does not know that his Aunt was secretly a voodoo queen. Nick discovers one of her old cursed amulets while he is exploring her basement. He discovers that the old amulet has powers that turn him into a zombie. He didn’t figure that out until strange things started to happen to him.
At first, Nick and his friends, Carter and Angelo, thought it was cool that Nick was a zombie. They wanted Nick to stay like that for as long as he could, however; that means that they can’t go trick-or-treating together. Soon, they realize that Nick can’t turn back into a human until he and his friends reverse the curse that was put on Nick by the amulet. Through their journey, the friends meet some pretty goofy and scary friends, such as a skeleton and a zombie king. At the very end there is a surprise that will leave you leaping out of your seat. I can’t tell you everything, so you will have to read the book to find out!
“Case File 13 – Zombie Kid” was filled with great action and humor. I would recommend this book to kids ages 10-12. I jumped out of my seat every chapter and laughed out loud. If you like zombies, you’ll like this book.
