It's always a tradition to include animals at Colorado's annual National Western Stock Show.
It's always a tradition to include animals at Colorado's annual National Western Stock Show. This year a certain pig caught some serious attention in the nursery. This Yorkshire/Hampshire breed wasn't just any ordinary pig, this was a new mother weighing in at a whopping 450 pounds! She had recently given birth to eight baby piglets on New Years day.
I spoke to Ashley Higgens, the current care taker for these pigs. She works with a nonprofit organization called the F.F.A. (Future Farmers of America). She tells me that these pig came in on the very first day of the stock show and have been doing well since. She also tells me that they are fed daily.
These new pigs are full of energy as they are very young. Being over twice the size of an average weight pig, the mother doesn't seem to be as enthusiastic as her newborns but the focus is mainly on the joyful piglets. Audiences of all ages enjoyed the wondrous sight of an enormous mother caring for her small children! These pigs won't be here for long so make sure to get your ticket and get a glance at these swine!
