Every year the national western stock show displays many different varieties of award winning livestock. But the annual event, here until the 26th, showcases more talent than phenomenal horseback shows. Artisans are a major part of the attraction. One of these businesses is "Sticks n Stones". They hand craft furniture from juniper and aspen wood. Some of their most prominently featured creations include wooden lamps. "All of the wood is taken from areas that needed to be cleared," assures SnS co owner Valerie Jafferis. The business owners, Jafferis and her husband, Chris cut the wood themselves and transform it into furniture. He has always been interested in woodwork, ever since he was a kid. However, the lamps are something of a joint effort. "They are mostly handmade by Colorado artisans with local fibers," says Jafferis of the lampshades, "but some are goat skin from Texas." Woodwork isn't the only specialty item they offer. SnS also sells unique crystal salt lamps. These natural rocks, mined in the Himalayas, have many unusual qualities. They emit "negative ions" removing dust and naturally purifying the air. They are excellent for people with asthma as they minimize asthmogenics such as dust. Jafferis' booth is one if many unique shops at the stock show. Being a lover of crafts, I recommend you check all of the artisans and salespeople's stands out!
