This movie is based off the historical event when Pompeii, a city in Italy, was destroyed by a volcanic explosion. The eruption was cataclysmic for the town of Pompeii. It is in the beginning of the movie that you find that it isn't all about the destruction of the city. But, of what was happening before it occurred. Milo (Kit Harington) was a slave-turned-gladiator. He was the lone survivor of his people. As a kid he was a slave. He was brought to the city of Pompeii to fight as a gladiator. While being in the town he made acquaintances with the Princess of Pompeii, Cassia (Emily Browning). Cassia had just returned home to Pompeii from a year trip in Rome. During the time Cassia was in Rome she met General Corvus (Kiefer Sutherland) of the Roman Empire’s Army. He went to Pompeii. Cassia had her heart set on Milo, the gladiator.
During the huge gladiator game, where the entire town was at, the arena began to shake, quiver, crack, and crash down. Some people in Pompeii believed it was the Gods doing and that they were the ones that were causing the volcanic explosion. There was nowhere to go, no escape route. You just had to wait until the Gods took you away along with the entire city.
This is the perfect movie to see on a date. I say this because, this movie is action packed, full of fighting, based on a true event in history, and has a love story intertwined through the whole thing. You absolutely have to see it in 3D; I believe it wouldn't have been as good if it wasn't in 3D. This is a PG-13 movie. Not a movie to take the whole family to see.
