" …I felt the stinging clang as my head crashed down against the metal, and then when I smelled the rancid stench of half eaten burrito mixed with day old yogurt."Trash Can Days by Teddy Steinkellner is a great story! It was very action packed and exciting. This was the part when Jake gets dumped into a trash can. I've already said to much. This book has quit a few main characters including Jake Schwartz, Hannah Schwartz, Danny Uribe, and finally Dorothy Wu. They were all very odd characters, Hannah being the popular drama queen, Jake her loser brother, Dorothy, Jake's wacky friend who has a secret crush on him, and then there is Danny, Jake's friend.
This book was mainly about Jake and his loser life and his best friend Danny abandoning him to be part of a gang. But there was a twist to Hannah's story. She went from popular, to people spreading bad rumors about her then to being all like peace love and happiness. Her emotions were a roller coaster. But Dorothy on the other hand was just loony. She even had a favorite trash can to hide behind! Dorothy's story was mainly about her and Jake's adventures and fantasy adventures.

I would say that this book exaggerated the drama of middle school too much and is little mature for anyone under 12. It includes gang violence, sexual activity, bullying, and quite a bit of turbulence. Despite the mature content, it was a great book, humorous, well written, and as I said before action packed!
So basically what I'm saying here is that Jake and his friends go on some pretty crazy adventures in seventh and eighth grade. If you like this book then read the sequel Trash Can Nights. It comes out on July 2014! I know I'm excited and you should be too! Could you imagine the smell of day old yogurt? GROSS!!!
