A story about a place full of walking, talking cows isn’t one you read every day. “Lost in Bermooda” by Mike Litwin is a book about when a human is stuck on an island full of human-like cows, monkeys, birds, and other animals. To make it even better, the book has a funny cartoonish feel. This is a good book for kids ages 8-10 that love animals. It is a short book (140 pages) yet it’s enough to have plenty of details to make you feel like you are part of the story.
Every day in Bermooda is the same, perfect day. Until Chuck, a young cow, finds a mystery animal in the Boneyard. Chuck is frightened when he finds the mystery animal to be a hu’man. However, the hu’man isn’t nearly as udderly terrifying as Chuck was taught they were. Sadly, the child Chuck found needs help getting home. Stuck on an island full of talking animals, the hu’man is scared of his fate. The two friends work together to try to get Dakota the hu’man to his home, but unfortunately neither of them know where that is.
“Lost in Bermooda” is a humorous tale about Chuck trying to get Dakota home. The pictures go well with the story, and the details are easy to understand. The characters seem like their personalities are taken from real people. Being a funny novel with a twist, this is sure to entertain readers even on a bad day. The author Mike Litwin managed to find new names for the technology we have today. Despite the island’s apparent perfection, will Dakota ever find the home he is looking for?
