As fast food restaurants become more and more popular, cooking healthy meals at home becomes less and less. Cooking Matters Colorado wants to show families that cooking at home is just as convenient as fast food, and way more fun.
Cooking Matters Colorado is an organization spread all over Colorado that helps families discover healthy homemade meals that even the kids can help with. They do presentations at local events and also have about 120 different healthy recipes at their website: CookingMatters.org. Also on the Cooking Matters website is information on cooking and food classes.
At the Cherry Creek Arts Festival 2014, the Program Coordinator of Cooking Matters Colorado, Chef Dennis Taylor taught a crowd to make vegetable quesadillas. Chef Taylor mentioned many little ways in which kids can help with preparing meals. A good start would be to measure spices, or use a salad knife to chop fruits and veggies. They can also read the next step or get out the next ingredient. It is also a lot more fun than kids may think. If you teach kids to help in the kitchen now, that’s where they will stay. After Chef Taylor and two young helpers were finished making the dish, the crowd was able to try these wonderful kale lime pesto quesadillas. For this particular recipe, Chef Taylor said, "A recipe is just a guideline; you can change it up however you want."
