Mike Keefe is an incredible political cartoonist. He creates cartoons of all political matters in a days work. A political cartoon is a cartoon about political matters such as war, congress, the economy, etc. The point of a political cartoon is to persuade to a point in a humorous way.

Say Mr. Keefe had to make a cartoon about something today. He would look in the paper from yesterday to see what was going on. The big thing happening was global warming. He would take that and make it into a comic with irony. He could also use a clich, which is a phrase or opinion that is overused for more laughs.

The cartoon is meant to clue you in on what is happening in life. Like this one cartoon that Keefe did, where an old man had not yet paid off his college loans, and he got so excited that he had a heart attack and died. The irony was in that part that right before he died, he was about to pay his last loan off. The politics were the bills the old man had to pay.

One of many ways to use the political cartoon is to pound a political party, like the Democrats or Republicans. Say that a democratic party did something that the cartoonist didn’t approve of, he could pound the Democrats through his cartoon. This could also make other people think that they don’t want that president to be re-elected so they could vote against him.
